Jacob Hauck lives and works in Saint Louis Missouri. A woodworker and metal smith, he runs Zymo Sculpture Studio with his father and family. He and his wife’s studios are based there, where they often work together.
Statement of work:
Roosters, organs pipes, and weathervanes are each antiquated tools using air, sound, and motion in their utilitarian functions. Objects collected at Saint Liborius Church on the north side of Saint Louis, built in 1859 and abandoned in 1992, inspired this piece. It references the original weathervane recently removed from an elevated spire and sold to an antiques dealer. I wanted to give him a chance to wake up the neighborhood again.
