Yoojeung Park was born and raised in Seoul, Korea, and grew up traveling inside and outside of her country exposing herself to many outdoor activities and foreign cultures. While she was attending Seoul Arts High School, she experienced not only fundamental fine art structures but also music and dance. Yoojeung received her BFA in 2005 from Ewha Womans University in Seoul and MFA in 2010 from Louisiana State University. After graduating, she had worked at Southern University and A&M college as adjunct instructor. In 2012, she moved back to Korea and launched a small local business while maintaining her art studio.
Statement of work:
Newly felt emotions together create energy that make me feel alive.
Communicating with others from different cultures, encountering alien environments, and unexpected spectacles are sources of those emotions and adventures I desire. My hunger for such adventures could be satisfied in a virtual space that is created in a form of art. Miniature human figures representing myself are placed in the virtual space as a connection between audiences and my artwork. My virtual space is a group of structures assembled with abandoned objects and materials.
